Cell Phones in Emergencies

Do you carry a cell phone?

Yes?

Why?

Usually we carry a cell phone in case WE need it in an emergency, which is a good reason.    The flip side of that is that someone else who may be trying to assist us in an emergency may need the phone to identify who we are or how to inform a family member or friend.

A car accident, or a street accident???

If you are in an auto accident or injured while walking on the street and you cannot speak for yourself, the police or someone who may be trying to help you is likely to look for a cell phone for information (ok, well maybe your wallet also, but that’s a different discussion).

Spanish is still the first language here and likely to be the language of someone trying to help us.

Instead of just storing the names of people on your phone, give a little more information such as . . .

  • esposa Alice, or just esposa (or esposo)
  • nino Roberto
  • mi nombre es (put your name)
  • doctor Gonzalez
  • mi casa (list your own home phone number)
  • mi hospital
  • amiga Cristina
  • en urgencia Maria (this may be a Spanish-speaker who could receive the call in Spanish and forward it)
  • mechanic, etc. etc.
Also keep in mind that with this information ‘enhancement’,  you would be providing extra information to someone if your phone was lost or stolen.
Decide what works best for you!

One more tidbit… if you buy a Mexican Cell phone, it has a wide-variety of  emergency numbers already programmed.   You will want to add YOUR specific personal numbers to what is already programmed in the phone.

About JaliscoSusan

For me, Jalisco has been a home of choice for over 4 years. Life Planning in Jalisco, the subject of this blog, started, albeit informally, when I purchased a home and asked "in Jalisco, is the house held in joint tenancy, with right of survivorship?" Silly me, what did I know? The answer was "No!" "No such thing here!" That was the first of MANY QUESTIONS in working through the legal system, and with legal professionals, much different from where I came in trying to get my affairs in order for life here! 'Life Planning in Jalisco' is the result of over 3 years of research. The general planning information can be used anywhere. The legal information can be used as a guideline for developing questions beyond Jalisco in any Mexican state or your country of origin. I hope you will benefit from the research, that it contributes to your quality of life, your well-being and peace of mind as you prepare for 'life as it happens' here in Jalisco or where ever you are! Buena suerte!
