More about the author…..

Ok, so who would be crazy enough to spend more than 3 years researching information for Life Planning in Jalisco©?

My early working years began at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro in San Francisco, or as some of us called it, ‘putter, mutter & stutter.’  A great place to work amongst the best and brightest in the legal field.    There I developed an interest in law and legal research.

With a bit of ‘life as it happens’ and the death of a spouse, I later landed a position at the National Labor Relations Board investigating cases and conducting the supporting legal research.   Some thoughts of law school loomed in the distance.

As life has it, my job was cut with an economic downturn in the US, I opted for a new life adventure and joined Peace Corps.  A whole new world opened up….and there became an “alarming number of things about which I knew nothing.”    For someone who already loved digging for information, analyzing it and spitting it back out again, this was just too much fun for one person.

On returning to the US, I found I remained intrigued with global issues and missed the fascination of living and working in the developing world.    By luck or chance, or fate, I ran into a Tanzanian graduate student from Stanford University… who invited me to a Berkeley-Stanford African studies conference.

It was not long after that, that I was accepted into a Stanford graduate program that laid the groundwork for yet another life transition.  What followed was a wonderful 25 year adventure.

I developed my own consulting practice selling my ‘intellectual’ wares  to USAID, World Bank, UNDP, Peace Corps and a whole host of NGOs (non-profit organizations) while living, working and traveling  in over 100 countries covering all of the developing country regions and more.

In those years, I was on the road regularly doing field research for one thing or another in countries that often lacked descent health care, or any systems to help if I was in an auto accident, etc.    Then,  I was single and knew I needed to have some backup in case I found myself in trouble.

After conducting my own legal and financial research,  I got into place systems for someone to act on my behalf  should I get into an accident or health situation where I could not act on my own behalf and I needed help!

The pump was well primed by the time  Life Planning in Jalisco© came along.    It was a very natural transition in preparing for yet another 25 year adventure!!!

The author is not a licensed attorney, but rather is a researcher with many years of field experience, especially working in places where accurate information is hard to obtain. Therefore, the information is well-researched, with references, resources and legal citations for you to follow-up with persons or references noted.  The information is just that, however, and not legal advice.

About JaliscoSusan

For me, Jalisco has been a home of choice for over 4 years. Life Planning in Jalisco, the subject of this blog, started, albeit informally, when I purchased a home and asked "in Jalisco, is the house held in joint tenancy, with right of survivorship?" Silly me, what did I know? The answer was "No!" "No such thing here!" That was the first of MANY QUESTIONS in working through the legal system, and with legal professionals, much different from where I came in trying to get my affairs in order for life here! 'Life Planning in Jalisco' is the result of over 3 years of research. The general planning information can be used anywhere. The legal information can be used as a guideline for developing questions beyond Jalisco in any Mexican state or your country of origin. I hope you will benefit from the research, that it contributes to your quality of life, your well-being and peace of mind as you prepare for 'life as it happens' here in Jalisco or where ever you are! Buena suerte!
